This fact sheet provides an overview of the Laos-Australia Connectivity Partnership (LACP) which was signed on 7 July 2022.  LACP is supporting the Government of Lao PDR’s infrastructure priorities to increase trade, employment, and inclusive economic growth. Implemented by Partnerships for Infrastructure with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, LACP seeks to improve transport connectivity to support Laos’ aim to transition from a land-locked to land-linked country.

This video showcases a study tour to Australia with a delegation of 12 government officials from Laos, Thailand, the Philippines and ASEAN in early February 2023 to learn about green hydrogen as an emerging clean fuel of the future.
Supported by the Australian Government through Partnerships for Infrastructure, the hydrogen study tour was arranged in response to growing interest by Southeast Asian governments and energy utilities to better understand hydrogen’s use and opportunities.

This fact sheet provides an overview of the Laos-Australia Sustainable Partnership (LASEP) which was signed 15 May 2023. Implemented by Australia’s Partnerships for Infrastructure initiative with Laos’ Ministry of Energy and Mines, LASEP aims to support a sustainable, reliable and profitable energy sector in Laos. The aim is to advance Laos’ National Socio-Economic Development Plan, moving towards a Green Economy and supporting Laos’ ambitions to achieve net zero by 2050.

Sharing expertise on sustainable transport systems between Australia and its partners helps unlock growth and economic benefits for communities and business in our region.   As part of a growing transport cooperation under Australia and Thailand’s strategic partnership, Partnerships for Infrastructure supported a five-day study tour to Australia in November to December 2023, bringing 12 senior officials from Thailand’s Ministry of Transport to Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney to visit transport facilities and meet with transport operators and government decision-makers. The tour focused on multimodal transport planning, public transport accessibility, and decarbonisation of the transport sector.

Laos and Vietnam exchange knowledge on energy regulation in Australia

During a study tour to Sydney in October 2023, government officials from Laos and Vietnam explored the key policy and regulatory insights driving Australia's clean energy transition with the Australian Energy Regulator. They also witnessed firsthand the cutting-edge advancements in renewable energy technologies at the University of NSW and Narara ecovillage.

From 28 August to 1 September 2023, 10 Timor-Leste officials visited the Northern Territory to witness the off-grid energy systems powering the Territory’s clean energy transition.  Arranged by the Australian Embassy in Dili and Australia’s Partnerships for Infrastructure initiative, the visit highlighted Australia-Timor-Leste cooperation on renewable energy and building resilience to climate change. The visit was also a practical example of how Timor-Leste and the Northern Territory are strengthening cooperation under the new four-year Strategic Partnership signed in February 2023.

This brief provides a snapshot of key technical and economic analyses from a low-carbon bunkering feasibility study undertaken with Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport, focusing on the port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP). The brief is a resource for policy makers and industry in Southeast Asia and Australia wanting to understand the growing importance of low-carbon bunkering in regional and global efforts to decarbonise shipping and meet international climate commitments, while unlocking green growth and economic opportunities for first movers in the region.

To address a knowledge gap surrounding the benefits that PPPs can offer for infrastructure development in Southeast Asia, this brief outlines existing disaster and climate frameworks in the region, identifies key entry points for enhancing the disaster and climate resilience of infrastructure built through PPPs, and provides an overview of relevant Australian frameworks, practical PPP examples and global good practices. The brief was developed through a comprehensive literature review of publicly available reports and an analysis of Partnerships for Infrastructure (P4I) initiatives and lessons learned.
